About Professor

Jean Jacques Machado

 

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Professor Machado is one of five brothers of the world-renowned Machado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu family.

Professor Machado began his Jiu-Jitsu training more than thirty years ago. He dominated the competitive arena of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in his native country, capturing every major title and competition award from 1982 through 1992.

In 1992, he arrived in the United States to continue his competitive success. Dominating the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene both in the United States and in international competition, Professor Machado gained worldwide recognition in 1999 with his performance at the Abu Dhabi Combat Club World Submission Wrestling Championships. Today, he is one of the most admired and respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world.

Professor Machado’s talents have been showcased in several major motion pictures and television appearances. He has appeared in the motion pictures "Force of the Spirit" and "Redbelt," as well as the television series "Insider Training."

Professor Machado has also produced numerous types of instructional media for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu including videos, DVDs, 2 best-selling books and his Global Online Training Program. He just released his third book, "The Grappler's Handbook - GI and NO-GI Techniques for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Grappling and Mixed Martial Arts," as well as his first mobile web application "JJ Machado iTechniques Volume 1" now available on iTunes.

1981- Ron started training in Wado ryu karate and Isshinryu karate.

1985- Promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt in Isshinryu Karate.

1989- Promoted to 2nd Degree Black Belt in Isshinryu Karate.

1992 - Promoted to 3rd Degree Black Belt in Isshinryu Karate.

1998 - Promoted to 4th Degree Black Belt in Isshinryu Karate.

2002 -Promoted to 5th Degree Black Belt in Isshinryu Karate.

2004- Started  training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

2005- Promoted to Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by Alexander “Xande" Ribeiro.

2007- Promoted to the advanced rank of Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by Professor Jean Jacques Machado.

2008, Ron opened the “Windsor Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy” under the guidance of Professor Jean Jacques Machado at 4471 Tecumseh Rd. E. in Windsor Ontario and became the 1st Jean Jacques Machado affiliated academy in Canada.

His school offers programs for children from ages 4-7, kids 8-15 and adults.

2010 March 6, while visiting Windsor Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Professor Jean Jacques Machado promoted Ron to Brown Belt and commented,  “Ron is one of the best Jiu-Jitsu instructors I have ever seen.”

Ron competed internationally and was a ranked competitor in the Senior Black Belt Division of the N.A.S.K.A. (North American Sport Karate Association.) He was a top competitor in the Michigan Karate Circuit winning many 1st place trophies in kata, weapons and sport fighting. He has trained many top competitors and promoted over 20 Black Belts in Isshinryu Karate. 

Ron has coached a number of his students at international competitions with several students who have won championships with the Elite Federation of Grapplers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament circuit based in Michigan.  The Windsor Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition team has consistently left every tournament with medals in all age divisions. During the 2009 season, they were awarded all four Most Supportive School awards, as well as Largest Competition Team awards for children and women.

 

Ron has on many occasions been invited to teach women’s self defense and has also taught self defense with the Essex Kent Scottish Regiment based in Windsor.  He most recently published an article in the "School’s Out" magazine, a publication that was distributed to all households with children in public schools in Windsor and Essex County.  Ron has appeared on television frequently, speaking as an expert in his field on “Sports Den” and “Plugged In”. His school has also been featured on the “A” Channel and in the Windsor Star.

 

In late 2009, Ron was asked to put together and coach “Team Canada”, comprised of students from his school, in a competition against “Team USA”, which was comprised of competitors from many schools from the State of Michigan. On December 5, 2009 he guided “Team Canada” to victory at the first international Team Challenge hosted by the Elite Federation of Grapplers and received the “Coach’s Cup”.

In December 2009 Ron was awarded “Coach of the Year 2009" by the Elite Federation of Grapplers Circuit in Michigan.

Ron continues to teach every class at Windsor Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Mitch has been training in martial arts for over 10 years, with the last six in the area of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  James has also been training in martial ars for over 10 years, the last six of which have been in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  James was one of the youngest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belts promoted in Windsor.  Both Mitch and James have successfully competed in various competitions, winning a number of their matches.  They bring their experience and passion to the mat and are very knowledgeable instructors.
